From the stock of the late Donald FORBES-SMITH: A VFU single in a Red-brown shade with a distinct ORANGE tint, centred a whisker low left, with FULL PERFS, lightly cancelled with an English Provincial numeral ('?76') in what I believe to be BROWN - of exactly the shade of 'Donkey-brown' used considerably later (in 1856) for experimental usage at some Wessex offices (such as Bagshot ('30'), Sherborne ('702') and Winchester ('888'). NE and SE recut, and letters misplaced low left and low right, the 'E' with an extended serif. Cat.£32+++. £18.50
